I can think of multiple ways to answer that, but none that would fully apply or justify the least popular aspects of Methods. I'm not invested enough in Methods to really defend it. The best I can say is that a lot of people like to take settings apart like clocks and look at all the moving parts.

I think that, one, in general, taking the setting apart in a way that does not grapple with the fact that it is a work of fiction and artistry is a flawed approach. Two, even taking that into account, I don't think HPMOR is very good at doing the thing it tries to do.
