What makes it cringey to you? I've only watched episode 1 and 2 so far.

There are a LOT of situations that are just full on second hand embarrassment for my tastes (first episode, the onsen scene with the censor-plants, for example, and a LOT of the scenes with Victor in general) and I find the humour very cringey. Also the fanservice. It's so blatant and OTT and I prefer things a little more subtle.

Huh. Why watch it then? I mean, I understand the secondhand embarrassment thing, I get it when people sing to other people in movies and stuff, but why watch a show that sort of revolves around over the top fanservice and gay-baiting?

I don't mind fanservice and gay-baiting, but it depends on how it's executed. Also, I really like figure skating and the animation looked so nice in the beginning. But if the quality keeps dropping, I'll think about dropping the show. I like to give shows like this about 4-5 episodes to see how it develops.

The quality will keep dropping, probably even more than for most animes, what with the studio already having issues with deadlines.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure about that. And that's kind of a death sentence for a "sports" anime where everything rests on visuals.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-28 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This happens with ALL anime though. The quality will be back to pristine with the DVD release.

Gay baiting? Maybe wait until the series is over to make an accusation like that?

It's definitely building up an emotional relationship and not just baseless fanservice, so there's an entirely good chance it will pay off.

AYRT Fair enough. I just hadn't heard they had any intention of going there anymore than any other sports anime does even when they pile on the flirting and close relationships.

Victor said in all seriousness that he's willing to be Yuuri's boyfriend. That's more than anything in any other sport anime has ever done.

Though Yuuri doesn't even dare to consider that option, he does ask God to let him have Victor by his side for at least a little longer which, again, is more than just fanservice or gay-baiting.
