Re: What is the most awkward party you've experienced?

I went to a former friend's wedding that got really cringeworthy really fast. The wedding was on a weekday at three in the afternoon and I only went because my workday ended at two thirty. Very few people had RSVP'd, but the bride decided to set up extra tables and ordered extra food "just in case". When I got there, she was screaming about all the money she'd spent because only about twenty six people had shown up (tables were set up for ninety people). The groom, who I hated because he was sleazy and had cheated on my friend, kept trying to kiss my hand, smelled like a brewery, and kept saying how hot the maid of honor looked. A bridesmaid didn't show up and the bride asked me to stand in for her. During the ceremony, the groom's mother kept sobbing and the officiant read a bunch of religious passages, which made the bride scowl because she was an atheist and had apparently requested for a religion-free ceremony. The toasts were terrible and the groom's mother made this horrendously long speech about her "poor son getting trapped by that skank". The groom was too wasted to finish the first dance. The bride ranted about spending so much money on food that would just go to waste and threw her bouquet at the groom when she saw him making out with another bridesmaid. At eight, the bride told everyone to get out of the reception hall and told the bridesmaids they had to stay and clean because she had spent a lot of money on their hair and makeup and didn't want to pay for the cleanup. I nope'd the hell out of there and stopped talking to her after she sent me a thank you card questioning the value of my gift.

...woooooooooow....

That's, like, the wedding from hell, right there.

I totally get why you bailed when you did and why you're not friends with that woman anymore, but I must admit to feeling a bit bad for her, too-pretty shitty of the groom's mom to make that kind of speech.

NAYRT - Of course, it also seems like a case of two screwed up people marrying precisely because they're two screwed up people. :/

This is very true.
