You might enjoy Devil Summoner. Other SMT have a similar game mechanic, but I felt like Devil Summoner was the most Pokemon-esque version.

I might be mistaken, because I never actually played Pokemon myself, but there is a lot of "weakening demons up to certain point and then catching them, then training them to fight alongside you" going on. (Plus a really lovely 30s/Taishō period setting.)
