Ah, alright. I stand corrected. In my experience, it was mostly in the early years of Japanese studies that young women tried imitate their favourite female anime characters. Your comment was nostalgic :3

I too noticed early on that I was using a higher pitch, and using a softer tone, than my normal speaking voice when using Japanese, because my experience in listening to the language was almost entirely from watching anime at that point. Female seiyuu, of course, often do just that (speak in a higher pitch than reagular voices): "kawaii culture" mandates it.

Her voice is pretty, and so are theirs, but I'd now rather use my own :).

I don't tend to use a higher pitch (Anthy's voice is around the same pitch as mine), but I do speak more softly, even when I'm not imitating Anthy, probably because my teacher speaks rather softly. Speaking entirely with my own voice is no good for me, I have to at least partially imitate my teacher or someone else or my accent is all wrong...it was the same way in French, except for with French my teacher was a native speaker of English so her accent wasn't exactly great (part of the reason why I have washed my hands of French and moved on to Japanese). But that's just me~~ We're all different.
