To be fair, if you really only sold three copies of a .99 book maybe it's not your friends who are the problem?

If you think that only good books sell and all books that sell are good, then yeah, I can see what you're getting at. But book sales don't really work that way, you know.

50 Shades of Grey is a perfect example of the fact that a book can be atrocious and still sell millions. So yes, selling well has nothing to do with the quality of the book.

Nothing to do with quality. If OP sold only three books, one can assume they're not doing a very good job of marketing them. If literally all they've done is whine at their friends like "you said you'd buy it so buy it!" then wondered why no-one did... the friends aren't the problem. Clearer?
