Re: First horror movie?

Scream. I was around 13, and it was at a birthday sleepover. It was terrifying. My parents had never let me watch that sort of stuff, and then there was the whole thing of being around 10 other girls that were also screaming their heads off. I swore off horror movies for years after that.

When I was 18, I saw The Ring, which annoyed me. I mean, it was creepy, but I got irritated that the 'scares' were more from things jumping out at the characters, along with a bang on the piano keys on the soundtrack, than from actually scary stuff. The scene where she crawls out of the television and kills the guy is the scariest, because it's slow, and you know what's coming. I was watching it during a university showing, and two guys in the very front stood up, screamed like little kids all the way down the walkway and out the back. We all laughed. After that, none of it was even a little scary anymore.

Now my work can be genuinely scary and creepy at times. After finding a few real dead bodies, horror movies are pretty laughable if not just boring.

Forgive me if you've said before, but can you say what you do IRL that has you finding real dead bodies?! :O

Haha. Yeah, sorry. I'm a first responder. I was the department "Angel of Death" for awhile - if I was sent to check on an elderly/sickly person who hadn't been heard from in awhile, they were guaranteed to be deceased. First responders (PD and FD) have to go to about 99% of unattended deaths, so yup - lots of dead people.

'Scream' was my first one, too, along with 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'. I watched them at a sleepover with friends, and we stayed in the den that night, and had our coats/bags we brought some stuff in and whatnot sitting upstairs in the friend's bedroom.

I remember getting so freaked out by those movies, 'Scream' especially, that the next morning, when I went to get my stuff from said bedroom, I bolted upstairs, grabbed it, and ran back down :p.
