Eh, maybe?

That being said, pronouns are pretty important; why else would misgendering someone be a problem?

I'd argue that having a wide-spread, non-gendered pronoun become mainstream would be better then just abolishing gendered pronouns all together.

I think ariakas was implying the wide spread mainstream non-gender pronoun would replace the gendered pronouns, thereby abolishing them.

I just don't see it happening.

I mean, right now, people who use one pronoun will sometimes realize that pronoun doesn't fit, and look for something that fits better; I don't see that changing. What if someone doesn't feel like a "they". The pronouns won't completely vanish, unless we get collective amnesia, so someone might stumble on "she" and think "shit, that's me."

Haha well, I don't see it happening either but the thread wasn't about practical reforms with a 5-year plan for implementation with majority consensus or none of the responses would apply.

Yeah but then you can still have shitheads elect to use the wrong one on people they don't feel perform the one they prefer effectively enough.

And other, non-shitheads might still feel insulted or degraded or reminded they aren't "good enough" to pass if people use the non-gendered one on them to start.
