All these hysterical accusations of 'liars' just baffles me. Maybe they were just throwing out a generic encouragement. "Oh that sounds great, you should do it!" Even if the words "I would totally but it!" were in there, well, people say a lot of things when they're trying to cheer someone up and bouy them on. That's how, y'know, actual people work. They were probably just trying to be nice.

Some of the comments in this thread make me wonder if any of the FS anons have actually met a person in real life.

You seem to think that untruths told for a nice reason aren't lies. At best, they're white lies. And in this situation, it's completely unnecessary. People aren't being asked, "Hey, if I wrote a book, would you buy it?" and being put on the spot. They're volunteering something that, if your motive is accurate, is not the truth. When possible, it's a good idea to avoid telling people things that aren't true.
