I empathize with you, but I've encouraged a fanfic writer to write a book before -- maybe they have a really great handle on storytelling or dialogue or clever prose or something.

And I mean it. They should be writers. I honestly wouldn't tell someone unprompted that they should write a book if they couldn't craft a tale.

But original work is different than fanfic. A lot of fans are hanging around fandom spaces to read about the characters, and that's it.
