The last time I bought a book written by a friend, it was TERRIBLE. The concept was neat, but the writing itself was amateurish, to the point that I am not sure how she managed to get it published by even a small press. Very disappointing, considering how much I liked her fics. There is no way I'm ever going to let on that I bought her book and read even part of it, because I don't want to be put into an awkward position when she asks me if I liked it.

I'm happy that she got published, and I'm happy she wrote something she seems to be proud of, but most of all, I am happy that she doesn't expect all of her friends to read her books, or hassle them about it. We would not remain friends for long if she did.

Yeah, I bought four (paperback) books written by a friend in his early career, just to give him a little boost. I haven't read any of them, though, just skimmed over them and decided not to try in earnest. Honestly, I didn't even thought the book blurb was appealing, and for a while now I've been thinking about donating them somewhere.

Things are going great for him, though, by now he's writing full time and can live off his writing.
