I think it's reasonable to be upset but people are like that sometimes. Sometimes they forget things, sometimes they don't carry through. I don't think that them not doing this one thing negates your friendships. If they do similar things (promising something and then not carrying through) repeatedly in different ways, that might be more telling about their character. They made have been interested in your book in theory because you wrote it and they wanted to support you but were really not that interested in the book itself.
