If the fact that half of the cast and crew blatantly dislike destiel (including Jensen and, earlier this year, Mark Sheppard) due to harrassment they've received from shippers hasn't sunk destiel, then I kind of doubt that there are a legions of wincest shippers out there who genuinely believe that Mary/Cas would somehow sink the ship. If anything, there would probably just be a lot of ridiculous meta written about how Mary is clearly a "female Dean" and Castiel is only with her because it's the closest thing he can get to being with Dean himself etc etc.

That said, I sincerely doubt that Mary/Cas is going to be a thing. I mean, I guess it's technically possible but I would be surprised if it actually happened.

All of this. If people weren't intent on being so damn stupid, nobody would have ever said 'hell no' to Dean/Castiel. But instead, they got aggressive and in the actor's faces at cons, which is just rude as fuck.

Although Sam did joke about it in one ep, which I can't remember off the top of my head. :)

I think you're referring to the season 10 episode "Fan Fiction" when Sam said that the pairing name should be "deastiel" instead of "destiel" and then wondered whether the name for him and cas should be "samstiel" or "sastiel"

Ah, yes! Thank you. :)

Oh, give me a major break.

Jensen, if anything, has played into the shippers' hands.

He's gettin' paaaaaaaid. He doesn't care what anyone ships.

He's publicly and rather testily at several cons said he's not playing Dean Winchester as bi or gay. *shrug*

I don't particularly care one way or the other, i just dislike fans getting up in *any* actor's face about stuff they're not particularly keen on talking about.

idk, you can definitely tell that Jensen has been getting fed up about the whole thing. I don't think he hates destiel in and of itself, but he seems to get annoyed by the fans who constantly try to shove it in his face. I can't blame him tbh; I've attended one of the cons before and there was a group of annoying chicks who kept randomly shouting "destiel!" and things related to destiel during the Jared and Jensen panel. I don't think they should have been interrupting the panel out of turn regardless but it was especially annoying because Misha (the other half of the ship) wasn't even there. At least it would have made more sense if it was a Misha and Jensen panel. I've heard similar stories from people who have attended other cons as well. There's a reason why Creation has actively tried to discourage/ban shipping related questions at cons.

I think Jensen has been pretty diplomatic about dealing with the whole thing, but there have been occasions where's he's tried to (politely) distance himself from destiel, presumably to discourage some of the more aggressive fans:

Yup. They might play along a little when it's just a fun thing to do, but not when people are getting stupid and aggressive.

Creation is lucky that fans are so good at shaming each other that a company can make $$$$$ off of all the "bad" fan activity and still be seen as the reasonable business people in this equation.

ayrt

I think there are a lot of things wrong with Creation including the fact that they keep jacking up con prices in order to squeeze every penny they can from people and in general have shady practices, but I don't see how they're in the wrong for trying to stop fans from being assholes to the actors. In this very specific situation, I completely support them.

(Anonymous) 2016-11-01 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
how do they make money off of the "bad" fan activity...don't they make money off of all the fans? do they somehow get more money from the bad ones or something?
