4. (Why do I only respond to DN secrets recently?) I kind of agree, kind of don't. I like a lot of the fandom. There are people who get it and who you can have a serious conversation with. There are so many incredible themes and amazing characterization in this series. But you can still have fun with it from time to time, you know? I don't know if you meant that there's too much fangirling and too little serious discussion. If you did, well, there are serious Death Note sites or communities... And then there are fun ones. (And then there ARE the cringeworthy ones, but they can be avoided.)

Haha I do believe there a lot of serious fans but it really didn't deserve ANY of the fangirling. I enjoy humor always, but stupid slash nonsense for it overpopulates the fandom. I don't feel Deathnote deserves to be in the same category of fandom as Naruto or Bleach is in (which it is especially in the cosplay/internet sense).

I agree most of the fangirling is stupid. (I say most because I don't see anything wrong with it at the right time and place. Not EVERYWHERE). I don't mind well-written and serious slash, but the rest ticks me off too. I mean I'm normally a slash fan, but I get so pissed off when people want to interpret the rain scene as BL. It's so symbolic and, in my opinion, has nothing to do with that shit. I don't mind the yaoi much if the characters are given the depth and complexity they have, but that's not usually the case... Usually it's "Oh hey I'm gonna completely change my personality and chuck the Death Note away, let's fuck 8D". -.-
