...the electoral college is not about checks and balances. It is just a way to make the popular vote more diluted and less exact

I don't see how it actually helps minorities. If anything it makes it worse: if a state is 49% a minority and 51% a majority, the latter will get 100% of the electoral votes.

The best thing we can do to prevent tyranny of the majority is do away with first past the post, which is another thing that needs to go.
