I sucks...

(Anonymous) 2016-11-13 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It sucks posting a fill on a kinkmeme, and no-one reacting the whole day, while other stories have gotten reactions and new prompts were posted. People were reading, just not my stuff, or not enough to like.

I know the F!S mentality is "you should write for yourself", but screw that. Especially if doing a fill, I hope people like it. Even if it's not a prompted story, being appreciated is nice. It's certainly not my sole reason for writing, but I don't understand people who say that comments or kudos don't matter to them.

Any fic author who says hits/comments/kudos don't matter to them are lying.

I agree.

You should write for yourself, sure. I have a folder of stuff I'll never show the world, since it's just for practice. That's me writing for myself.

But if I write something to post for someone else I am fuelled on comments. If I don't get any, I'm not posting again. Doesn't matter if you silently appreciated my work or you read it or if I'm one of only a few people posting on a kinkmeme and someone else is whining in the comments about wanting more fills. Didn't get enough/any comments? Not going to do your fill.

I want to be appreciated if I take the time out to do something for someone else, and I'm not sorry if that's selfish.

The person who prompted it might not have read it yet, but still.

In the same vein of what you said, I do get frustrated when people do not comment on my favorite fills. Especially if it's multi-chaptered and well-written. C'mon, people are putting in good work here. It's double frustrating if then someone goes "hey, what happened to that fill" two months later. Yeah, maybe you should have told the author you liked it, then.

Yeepppp. Or also maybe fill some things yourself. Like any of my prompts, ever.

>:E

Yes, I will be terribly bitter about kinkmemes sometimes.

Its funny how things can go in cycles on kinkmeme's. Now it's just a bunch of prompts that do nothing for m, and some fills, too. There's a few stories I adored, but two of those were dropped by authors in favor of other things :(

Sounds like people left. That tends to be how it goes.

I know right? I'm actually one of those authors that was like "fuck it. Not finishing. No one appreciated this." And then saw some time later that people were all "what happened to that (insert ship for Ace Attorney fandom) fic back on part (I forget what one)?" And it's like "are you fucking serious if you fucking liked it you should have fucking at least said you did instead of making me disillusioned you fucks."

Yep. I'm a storyteller. That's my primary engagement with the art of writing. I'll do experimental works now and then to test out new styles or write something that is pure, unadulterated self-indulgence, but if I'm telling a story... well, I already know how it ends. I'm telling it for the benefit of others.

If nobody's reading it, then I won't continue it. It's really that simple. I'll move on to one of my other works that is getting comments/kudos/etc.

I don't need much - single comments have spurred me to finish huge chapter fics in the past - but I do need an audience.

has your fill been added to the kink meme's pinboard/delicious/whatever account (assuming your kink meme has one, which it might not I guess) yet? A lot of people only check the pinboard of a kink meme for fills, so if it hasn't been added then that might be why it hasn't gotten any attention yet. it also could be because it's the weekend and a lot of people might still be out of the house and away from the internet

Yes, it does suck.

I'm a firm believer that you should write for yourself, but when you post, it's for other people to see and enjoy and if there isn't any response, it's very disheartening. As for a prompt fill, at the absolute minimum, you should get an acknowledgement that you filled someone's prompt.
