What is the most ridiculous thing you believed as a kid?

Why did you believe it?

A lot of the conservative crap that I grew up around that I just accepted because I didn't know any better. Not sure what is the most ridiculous. The homophobic/transphobic stuff probably. Or the "intelligent design" stuff that claimed to be different from creationism but refused to accept Evolution even with all the evidence.

I went to a deeply insular Catholic school. For a long time I believed the vagina was on the small of the back.

I don't think I have to explain how one led to the other.

I assumed that when you could hear people leaving a message on an answering machine, they could hear you, just like they could hear you on the phone. I was always really quiet so they wouldn't know I was there.

That potatoes could grow under your armpits, because my grandma would come up with shit like that.

That turkeys had to be kept in barns because they were so dumb they'd look up at the sky confused by the rain and drown. I believed it because I was a dumb kid who hadn't yet learned to question adults even if logically that made no sense.

I used to think that men could get pregnant. I was pretty young though (like under 6) and it was before I knew anything about sex and how conception actually worked. I just figured that if women could get pregnant, then men could too because why not? I thought that dudes with big bellies were pregnant and it wasn't until my mom was like "lol what?" that I learned otherwise.

Homosexual = transgender, because we live in a heterocentrist culture and while I had heard of same gender couples I had never seen one anywhere around me nor in fiction, so I concluded that one spouse would dress as the other sex so they could become a couple.

I used to think you could get AIDS just by touching someone, or touching something someone touched.

I also used to be scared of "Mean George" in my Great-Grandma's Basement. It was a Halloween mannequin that she said came to life and ate you if you misbehaved.
