Reminds me of Christmas last year - my parents have an oven that can do some sort of self-cleaning by heating up to a very high temperature and really burning away some residual grease and stuff. Note the "residual" - it definitely needs a rough clean up beforehand. My father was too lazy to read the instructions properly, though, so he ended up activating that program after cooking a turkey without at least cleaning the worst of the grease.
Cue lots of smoke, the house stank for days afterwards and we lost a baking tray in the process.

Oh god.

I remember how disgusting my clothes and hair smelled after helping someone while they were doing a roast. I can't imagine how bad that must have been. Ew.
