I know a lot of you guys were worried about me last night, so I'm going to drop in with one last update.

After a long conversation, I managed to convince my parents to have a meeting with me to rethink seeing my therapist in late January. Until then, I have to put up with him, but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for all your good wishes and advice for how to deal with this situation. It's been an absolutely horrible week, and you guys helped me feel like I wasn't alone. I'm still not sure it's going to be okay, but I have hope now.

It's going to be a struggle, but I'm going to try and focus on things in the next few months I can be happy about and keep living for. (New Pokemon games! I'm going to an anniversary event for The Thing early next year! I'm well on my way to getting a job!)

When good fics go bad...

So, I'm reading a fic for...probably the fourth or fifth (maybe sixth) ship in juggernaut fandom. We're talking a fandom where, if the juggernaut pairing is the size of a watermelon, this pairing is the size of a kumquat.

So, I've found this fic, it's long and everything I could have hoped for. An interesting story, a big cast of characters and every word out of everyone's mouth sounds exactly as it should. The characterization is great, except for this: The writer's doing this thing, where the main two characters I swear to god have to always be touching foreheads or pawing at each other or rubbing their necks to keep the other from flying off into a murderous rage or falling apart into a million pieces. But I've mostly been able to roll my eyes and deal with it until they're done babying one another and the plot moves on. Except that in conjunction with one of them just now literally feeding the other -- holding sandwich up to his face until he takes a bite, replacing the sandwich with a chip and mother-henning him until he eats the whole plate of food just grinds my gears.

And it's not even like the guy being fed is sick or hurt, he's just distracted by work! And now it all just feels like infantilization -- even though they're both very sexy with each other also, so it's a weird infantilization.

I hope getting it all off my chest here will...get it off my chest enough that I can go back to enjoying the fic, because those moments aside, I really like it. But those moments are really making me not want to keep reading.
