Yeah, but so many of them never want to improve or they've got a coterie of little bullies surrounding them to insult anyone who offers suggestions and coddle their "special" friend who is "special" and therefore is a nice little mascot for their social justice credentials. You know, the ones who keep on with the OC-centric, first person, present tense crap. They just will not try and move into writing real fanfic.

This went into a very specific and narrow grudge-thing that I don't think is the sum total of bad fic writing

Hello, me of 15 years ago who had a giant stick up her ass.

Yeah, it can be frustrating to see nothing but crap in the fanfic sections, even more so if they're not open to concrit. But let the kids have their fun and focus on something cool in your own life. What they choose to write is not that important, and it is not their job to please you. Eventually, they will get bored and go away, or they will be in for a rude awakening should they ever try to go professional.
