Fuck that noise. Replace the TV, but do it for the price she paid. If it's not as big, too fucking bad.

No, OP, I think you should try your best to replace the TV and not cop to this anon's advice and express attitude. It's a shitty deal but you still have to live with this woman and doing the right thing is the only way to avoid potentially souring your living situation -- the literal worst, speaking from experience.

I expressed attitude, but I didn't tell OP to. It's not attitude to stick to your guns against an unreasonable request. And asking someone to buy a TV of higher value than what the roommate spent is unreasonable.

I basically agree with this. If you break something through total accident and no carelessness or recklessness of your own, I think proper etiquette ought to be to replace the thing at the value it was at when it was broken.
