I'm playing Sun, and I'm loving it so far! Imo, all the changes I've noticed have been for the better. I'm especially pleased that they went away from the traditional 8-gym structure - now I have less of an idea what to expect as gameplay progresses, which is something I haven't been able to say about Pokémon in a while. The only thing I really, really don't like is freakin' Salazzle. Yeesh.

Part of me kind of misses the gyms but I don't mind the trials either. I just beat up Salazzle lol.

I think one improvement I like (though for nostalgic reasons also kind of miss) is that they got rid of HMs and now just allow you to summon certain pokemon for certain moves. The thing I always disliked about HMs was needing to have a pokemon in my party ready to use them, which for moves like surf was not a big deal since surf is a decent offensive water move, but then when you throw in weak moves like Rock Smash or non offensive like Flash, I was less happy. Certain generations got way overzealous with HMs as well.

I still keep thinking I need to install Fly on my pokemon though, I am not used to it lol

But now there's no reason to have Linoone! That thing has been a lifesaver for me.

Haha for me it was Bibarel. I used to keep him in my part just to have every move of his be an HM.

Yeah, but...now I'm worried we will no longer HAVE the moves. I LOVED having Fly because it was NICE Flying-Type move and Surf has been one of my go to's for Water-Type moves since Gen 1.

I like the new Riding Pokemon, but I hope this in't at the expense of no longer having the HMs as actual moves.

Fly and Surf are both TM moves. (I'm going to go on a limb and assume that'd make the other HM moves reclassed to TM moves as well.)
