Your worst story of mixing friendship and money

(Anonymous) 2016-11-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a friend who went around borrowing money from everyone he knew some time ago. I never did end up lending this person money, but I later heard he'd somehow managed to wrack up almost a hundred thousand dollars in debt... because he was having an affair with this married guy who needed the money for some business scheme??? One of my best friends, who used to work with him, let him borrow like $500 even though she was not even as close to him as I was. Now his life is in ruins and his debtors are constantly hounding his parents (his dad was a teacher of mine in HS). All his relationships are fucked. I just don't understand how people can let their lives get to such a state.

I had friend like that. He was crazy about this girl, but she had health issues with fertility. So they basically lied and pretended to be an established couple at a fertility clinic, and he paid part of whatever treatment she had.

I mean, besides the hugely irresponsible way of bringing kids (with health issues) into the world, I never understood why he never had money (decent job, no other huge expenses) but like wtf. I think he still owes me like 20 euro, but i'll let it slide, I'll just never borrow him anything again.
