And if it must happen, can it not be Harvest Festival in September? That is the closest thing to actual thanksgiving here, we're "thankful" for the safe completion of the harvest and praising God (well, we say that but really were praising the weather -or trying to appease the weather, depending on the weather we had that year- the early Monks and Saints just slapped the Jehovah brand on something already pre-existing) for the bounty of the year.
