I think with GoT, a lot of people forget the sheer amount of travel time involved. It's generally not worth showing unless something happens, but that doesn't mean it's not taking characters days/weeks/months to get from one location to another.

Like people joke about some characters (like Littlefinger or Varys) teleporting, but just the last episode of season 6, Varys going to Dorne and back to Meereen, to be present when Dany sets sail would actually sum up to months, which would actually be sensible because it would take time for Dany to get all her army ready.
