(Anonymous) 2016-11-27 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah there was both campaigning and ballot stuffing. The latter was disappointing.

I'm curious anon, what did you hate about Katsa? (I'm not emotionally attached to liking her, so I won't be offended, I just really want to hear your POV)
OP
(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 06:09 am (UTC)(link)It wasn't just once or twice either, it was consistent throughout the book. There's not wanting those things for yourself and then there's "I'm not like other girls teehee" and this definitely felt like the latter.

I'm sorry you couldn't finish it in time for the discussion, I'm sure you could still have been welcome! Discussing why you dislike her is perfectly valid discussion! What about her didn't you like?

Still wish secret maker had shared it with the discussion though, it could have been interesting to discuss what they like and why, then why some of us liked it. Perhaps they'd like the other books, idk. They're much better written than Katsa's imo. Less angsty too.
OP
(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 06:12 am (UTC)(link)I also resented comments on goodreads and the like discussing the book as some great feminist fantasy when Katsa hardly even interacts with any other female characters and devotes an awful lot of time to mentally tearing down the female characters she does know aside from Bitterblue.
That said, I agree with her comment downthread, I might enjoy either of the other two novels more. I thought there was some genuine promise in the worldbuilding, I just hated the focal character here.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 06:18 am (UTC)(link)Your comment downthread that I'd probably like the other books.
