Don't get me wrong I value standing up for oneself. But I know the difference between someone being assertive and someone being aggressive.

I agree with this. I think a lot of people online have warped "tone policing" to mean they think they are allowed to say whatever the fuck they want whenever the fuck they want.

A lot of time the aggression is just uncalled for and escalates way too quickly though, like I have seen people make very polite comments that maybe they didn't word in the best manner only for them to be jumped on.

This kind of behavior that promotes aggression also bothers me online when not everyone is up on the proper "socially acceptable" language, especially when a lot of people are bilingual and may struggle to communicate that. I think it's important to take a second and ask someone what their meaning was before assuming they have offensive thoughts.
