The whole deal with the tattoos and the charms is annoying, though as Bobby said way, way back in season one - they had, up until Meg and Azazel, only had to deal with one or two demon possessions in a *year* - it just wasn't a bit thing, and Sam and Dean didn't even know that demons did that (or that vampires still existed). Hunters all seem very specialized, in their own little niches of expertise.

At this point, though, yes, people should know about it.

A Jody spin-off would be awesome. I'd watch it.

Another chapter in the show pretending a bit of canon doesn't exist to make a plot happen. There are a few big reasons why Supernatural will never be my favorite show and one of them is that the continuity is terrible. Also related is that the world building is probably the worst I've ever seen in a fantasy story that wasn't Twilight.

Hundreds of demons have been walking about on earth for over a decade. Those hunters all should have either had a tattoo or a charm to protect themselves if they were halfway decent at their job.
