I'm sure there were such readers, but again, Austen can't have been that much "outside of her time" if there were so many people identifying with her characters and situations. Her attitude about love and marriage wasn't that far removed from how people at the time felt and occasionally behaved.

Marriages of convenience were also part of a class issue - more common among impoverished gentlemen and people with titles but no money or vice versa, but it didn't work the same way in the lower classes.
