This. I think ayrt is really underestimating how big the differences are. It goes way beyond a less rigid social code... and frankly, even that's debateable. Less rigid in some ways, but there are all sorts of unspoken rules of etiquette, never mind all the ins and outs of technology that we take for granted that weren't applicable in Austen's day.
