This pisses me off, too. Not because I'm inherently opposed to people of different beauty levels being couples (though studies show people tend to date within their "beauty" level). But it's NEVER THE OPPOSITE (ugly fat woman with fit, attractive dude) And it feels like the vast majority of media - sitcoms, movies, etc. - have the ugly/plain guy, hot woman thing. We need more plain/average looking woman in media in general.

This this this this this. There are not enough roles for women in general but the amount of roles for women who aren't drop dead gorgeous is so minimal. I really want to see more variety in the way female leads look.

I'd say on a large scale the British entertainment industry is more willing to embrace plainer-looking actors. Not everyone is model-worthy in looks and a lot of British TV shows are just really average people in looks.
