My actual therapist, who I've had for about 10 years now, is so important to me that one of my biggest fears is her death. She's the only adult in my life who has ever treated me with respect. That's a really big deal.

My high school counselor, on the other hand, is the most abusive person I have ever encountered, and I still have screaming nightmares about him even though it's been six years since I was in high school. And compared to the kids at the school he worked at before mine, I'm really lucky, because apparently he was a practitioner of physical discipline.
