I stopped watching after the first season because the gratuitous extended rape scenes put me off, but it did show that her husband was obsessed with finding her, refusing to believe she was dead or had left him, and that the rest of his life was starting to break down as a result of his drive to reunite with her. Her staying with Jamie when she could have gone back to her (happy) life with Frank was a total asshole move.

Oh god the whole episode about rape is when I decided to never watch again, it was too much.

I was already not crazy about Jaime and Claire and their relationship but once things got that dark I didn't want to know if it ever got that bad again so I quit.

But she wasn't happy with Frank tho. I think that was a whole plot point. They were trying to rekindle things after the war fucked them both up (hence the vacation to Inverness) but it was kinda established that they were estranged to each other after the war. Not saying it makes the affair OK. Just that she and Frank weren't really happily married (neither of their faults cuz...war :/ )

Well, yes, but then she should have taken the chance to go home, get a divorce, tell him where she was, then go back to Jaime. She was a jackass to just leave Frank hanging, wondering where she was, searching for her.

Well yea, I never said she wasn't in the wrong for that. Just that it doesn't invalidate her feelings for either of them.

Oh, I agree with that. I just think she treated Frank badly and that the show (and books) make it out as if everything is perfectly fine as long as it is true love and it doesn't matter who is hurt.

I couldn't even make it to the end of the first season because I was finding the sexual violence too upsetting but yeah, I was really confused about Claire's relationship with Frank. They seemed in love? And ok, maybe she had no idea if she would ever see him again, but she seemed to fall for Jamie simply because he was good at sex. It was all very weird.
