As a grown woman who still has a soft spot for many of my teenage favorites, I can understand people wanting to rec things that aren't really that good- After all, they found enjoyment in those things, so maybe they're hoping others will too - especially if they're still in the fandom.

That said, if I were to recommend one of my mediocre loves to another person, I couldn't do it without mentioning the faults. If the members of the community in question only have praise these things... yeah, I would get pretty bitchy and elitist too, at least internally.

This. I have a lot of guilty pleasures too, and some of the fun with fandom friends is that I don't have to hide these even when I recognize that my love isn't based on quality, but of how a particular trope or subject hit me at some time of my life. I wouldn't recommend them without warning, but I will certainly declare my love.
