(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:09 am (UTC)(link)I know Kloves is a Harmony shipper and they seem to have a very specific idea of who Hermione is. Way back in 2004 when Harry Potter fandom was in its heyday (and when only 3 of the Harry Potter movies had come out) I was a debater for the side of Ron and Hermione in the great shipping war. It was on a website that doesn’t exist anymore called Veritaserum. So I talked to a lot of harmony shippers and quite a few of them had this idea of Hermione that I thought was problematic because it didn’t reflect the Hermione I knew from the books. Many of these shippers were caught up in what I like to call “the Goddess Hermione Myth."
Goddess Hermione is an angel sent from on high to be the answer to all of Harry’s problems. She is his shoulder to cry on, his endless source of useful information, the one who stood up for him the most, the one who always reassured him, the one who taught him the most. If she has a flaw, it’s only that she loves too much, cares too much. She was never an interfering brat, a showoff, condescending, or clueless to her own occasional tactless behavior. No, darling perfect Hermione was never any of those things. Excuse me while I barf. The Goddess Hermione Myth was also paired with the Court Jester Ron who didn’t have any real value to Harry or the story besides being the funny man. Ron wasn’t useful to the story as Harry’s best friend since Goddess Hermione is there to make sure Harry wants for nothing.
And Goddess Hermione is who's in the movies.
