The former employee at my job who was fired for trying to frame another employee for theft. The man played office politics harder than anyone else I've ever seen, trying to use every employee as an ally, a patsy, or a target to rally his allies around. The store didn't get back to normal until everyone he'd influenced quit.

My high school music teacher.

Pretty much every shrink I had.

The teacher who told me I had first world problems when I was suffering from anxiety and depression.

The people at m previous job who didn't pay my last wage (though one of them is in jail for fraud, that's better than poo).

My middle school Latin teacher, who locked my out of and in the classroom on multiple occasions, pretended I wasn't there on multiple occasions (like literally acted as if I wasn't in class), called me stupid in from of the whole class, threw my papers back at me crumpled up and unmarked in front of everyone with the comment "I'm not reading this," made fun of my (newly diagnosed) disability, and told me I was failing the class before telling my parents the truth, which is that I was a solid B+ student. Fuck that guy.

I don't actually have anyone to get revenge on. Like, there are people I don't particularly enjoy, but every time I hear about them it's like, "I hear so-and-so's mom has cancer" or "Did you hear about John Doe? He's dying of x disease."

I would pretty much like to send a pre-emptive dog poop bag to everyone who thinks it's a brilliant idea to sit in a public area playing some stupid youtube video without headphones though. Literally the worst type of person to exist.

My former best friend's husband. He treats her terribly, cheats on her, and doesn't lift a finger to help her out. I hate him so much.

Use this thread to post about people you are trying to shop for for the holidays and see if anyone has ideas! Alternatively, if you think something is cool and would make a good gift for people to buy share it here! Or just discuss your gift buying stories and plans!

My mom is very difficult to shop for (she has everything she needs and if she wants something, she either buys it or decides she doesn't want it). My dad isn't quite as bad and I already have half a gift. I'm just not creative! My sister will probably furnish a wishlist, and my brother I've already decided I'm just going to get a gift card for.

So what to get two middle-aged adults? They both like to cook, but their other hobbies are pretty low-key (or expensive).

I have decided what to get for one of my really good friends, but I can't share that here because she reads F!S |D

Fandom annoyances/rants?

I've recently gotten into a new fandom, and pretty much right away shipped what I expected to be a hugely popular pairing...went looking for fic, and there are only three. Three! Granted, it's not a huge fandom, but I still expected the majority of the fic to be about this pairing. I figured they're two good looking dudes who are good friends and act super slashy, it'll be a really popular pairing...but no. Maybe people are right when they talk about racism in fandom (one of the guys is non-white). :(

Pet death tw goddammit 2016

So I know it's late and maybe no-one will see this, but a raccoon killed one of my chickens tonight, and it's my fault and I feel awful. Normally I leave their coop and run open and make sure they're all roosting high up. I used to shut the coop, and after what happened this evening, I shut it again, but even shut it's not super secure. I haven't ever lost one to a predator. Awhile back I started leaving the coop and their run open at night and a floodlight and porchlight on. If possums or raccoons did come looking for dinner, in the morning I'd find a flock of freaked out hens lined up along the back of our washing machine and dryer on the back porch, because they could see where to go and also they'd make enough noise that I'd hear and come chase the predator away; before, sometimes they would get injured when something broke into the coop but they couldn't see or get out.

Tonight I was exhausted and asleep by 9:30. And woken up at 10:00 by freaked out chickens. There was a hen trapped against the closed run gate that I must've left shut, by a raccoon, and it bit her through the head just as I got there. She shrieked and tried to wedge herself under the gate and the raccoon ran off when I shouted, but since my hen was wedged under the gate I couldn't get in, and I watched her die still trying to get out. I buried her and put the other unharmed hens away. And left the run gate open, but it was too late to save Sasquatch.

She was a Blue Cochin, a big fluffball I had to lift up to her roost because she was too heavy to fly, with huge fluffy feet that earned her her name because, well, bigfoot. She was only five, and she was the second hen I lost this year. I raised her and the rest of the flock from babies, and she's the only one out of twenty hens I've cared for to actually be killed by a predator while under my care. Some of the others I got at the same time, I gave away to friends and coworkers, and heard later they'd been killed, but...

Fuck 2016. I know it's a tiny thing, she was a tiny thing, and people eat millions of chickens a day, but I watched her die and I couldn't save her and she died in pain and terror and it sucks. And before anyone decides to be an asshole about it, no, I don't eat meat. Haven't for over 20 years. And she was my pet. She'd come when I called and eat out of my hands and it was my job to keep her safe and I failed her.

How about Rosemary Sutcliffe's Eagle Of The Ninth? I remember we had a few secrets about the movie version when it came out, so presumably at least a couple of people here would be interested. Plus it's just a really good read in general.
