I hadn't been inspired for fandom or fic in a long time when this ship hit me like a sack of bricks and put me in insta-writing mode.
So now I'm like 20,000+ words into an angst-ridden, character-driven giant fic that I actually really love and that's a ton of fun to write. Which is great!
The thing is, though, I would really love to show this to someone or talk about it with someone, but I've made a rule for myself ages ago that I would never post WIPs again. I've been through it, and while I finished my share of multi-chaptered fic, I also sometimes did not, and I don't like letting people down and I always feel bad getting requests to finish this or that fic after I ran out of steam for them.
So I only post things when they're complete, even if they're like 50,000 words or longer.
But this fic is nowhere near finished, and I won't have time to write for the next two months due to work, so... I know it'll take forever until I get to show anybody this thing I'm really excited about.
I can't even show it to my fandom/fic writing friends, because I'm new to Fire Emblem and none of them are into it.
Not a huge problem, obviously, but it's a weird mix of fun and really really annoying.

I was in almost exactly the same situation, but different fandom. I've not got the best track record with WIPs, sadly, and I'd been writer's blocking for aaaages when this FFVII fic idea hit me, and I started writing. I've been pushing myself really hard to keep the momentum going, just to get back in the habit of writing. I've written about 40k of it at this point.

But like you, I'm not in the fandom, don't know anybody in it, and I didn't want to post it unfinished - but I did want feedback. So I just cold-called people in the fandom, asking if somebody wants to be my beta, and ended up actually finding somebody on ffnet to be a sounding board and give me comments and squees.

Maybe try something like that? That way you can have your cake and eat it too.

That sucks OP. Glad you're enjoying it though. If you're tempted enough to share, maybe put a clear warning like "WIP--may never finish" at the beginning so people know what they're getting into? If you ever break your rule.

Well OP, I'm quite fond of Leo and Takumi (and Leo/Takumi!) so should you finish it, I'm definitely interested in the finished product. But no pressure! :3
