He was really a good character. I mean, it was a little formulaic, but it definitely worked for the movie - having the "everyman" normal Joe contrast the wizard world, which was especially necessary when it takes place in the middle of a "normal" city rather than magical Hogwarts. But he was also pretty lovable. He and Queenie were easily the most likable characters because they felt the most normal and fleshed out.

Kind of disappointed in Newt, who didn't really seem to come into his own, imo and felt mostly bland. And the other sister (can't remember her name) was okay but not that inherently interesting, and not quirky enough to work without being interesting.

I found the other girl blander than Newt. Mostly because the actor did a good job with his body language that made me think he was more interesting.

I wish they'd gone more into her and Credence and about her, because she seemed like she could be pretty cool. I can't even explain why I find her bland.

I suppose that's true - Newt at least presented as colorful and quirky, so he was kind of interesting to watch. I just never quite got a sense for him. I didn't dislike him, I just couldn't get a sense for who and what he was supposed to be.
