Also, general question to fic writers about (canonically) shortened names that have no conventional spelling: how do you do it? I've been reading The Flash fic and Barry Allen's first name gets shortened by cutting off the second syllable - I've read fic with it Bar, Barr, Bear, and Bare (same with Lisa Snart - Lis, Lise, Lize). Do you try to evoke the spelling of the original name or the correct pronunciation of the shortened name? I mean, conventional nicknames aren't always spelled like the names they come from - Mike/Michael, Amy/Amelia, etc.
