Told you to just roll with it, you wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for those confrontational yahoos. This is what happens to people who try to be a hero. Take the pills for a week so you know how to fake being on them and you look compliant and then start ditching them, then for the love of god act compliant until you are in a position to get yourself out. If you keep trying the standing up to him route the next stop is institutionalization-ville. You do not want to go there.

You have to be a decent-ish actor to fake that, especially if you already have problems. Not saying it can't be a good strategy, but not everyone an pull that one off.

Never, ever trust the bastard who's telling you the same things the wicked little voices in your head are telling you. I guarantee that letting fear dictate your actions will only make things worse.

Being thrown into an institution will also make things worse. This person apparently lives in the 1950s. So I imagine they can be thrown into an institution and never seen again.

They either need to play along until they can leave or buck up and fight back.

Being compliant is a good survival mechanism but in it also lies the danger of never getting out because you already know how to ride out all the problems.

I'm not saying full confrontation is the 100% right choice either for every situation, but nothing I've seen from anon indicates they might get institutionalized. Confrontation will just lead to confrontation.

Anon really needs to start believing that they do have choices and they can get out, I think the biggest problem now is every time advice is given- it seems to be "struck down" by either the parents or therapist. Anon does not believe that they, as an adult, are allowed to make these choices in their life, but THEY ARE. I don't know how rolling with it will help this fundamental issue.

If this person is over 18, getting them institutionalized is not gonna be easy unless the parents are fucking loaded, because insurance does not like to pay for institutionalization because it's fucking expensive. All the same, OP, now would be the time to bugger off to a shelter if you possibly can, and make a big fucking stink about this guy when you do. Because if reporting him might get your parents in legal trouble, then he's probably doing illegal shit.

Yep. People following the law shouldn't worry.

Yep. As far as I know, there are very stringent rules about involuntary commitment. If OP is not a danger to themselves or others, then they don't have a leg to stand on as far as that goes. These folks might be able to force a 72-hour hold, but that should be it.

Seconding that not everyone is able to play along. Especially if OP has a disability with reading and responding to non verbal cues, acting may be hard for them. It may be good advice for escaping abusive situations, but it being good advice doesn't make it doable.

And again, I think OP should fake taking the drugs, but that they should not take it for real at all. Any potential side effects are not worth that. That could damage their physical health and put them an even more vulnerable position.
