People "hate" Gwen because she's an unstable psycho bitch who constantly abuses her boyfriend and has the weirdest most unrealistic reactions to everything ever. I don't even know you and unless you are well on your way to rehab or prison, I know you are not like Gwen.

That is not to say that you do not have an awesome relationship like she does with Jack, and I am so happy for you on that count. Further more, while I don't like what they have done with her character (the cuteness of Out from the Rain aside) anyone who treats you differently because you like her, sucks.

I feel that this analysis of the character would be difficult to support with textual evidence.

Of course. I wasn't giving an opinion meant to sway anyone. FS! Is fun for commenting and contemplating, but most certainly not necessarily the place I go to chat about what's happening week to week. I was trying to express that secret poster can like who secret poster likes, even if other people don't, and shouldn't get shit for it.

I could analyze this character for the length of a thesis to the end that I stated and and it wouldn't change your mind. You have to know that much. I think I'm right to an extent, but all the "textual evidence" I could provide would be disagreed with, and that's totally cool. BELIEVE me, I know! I am in other fandoms where I love a hated character like you wouldn't believe.

I'm sorry your head exploded. :( I'm horrible at the internet, really. (I'm not much better in real life...) I don't like arguing, (intense discussing is okay) and I hate making people feel bad. But while I'm %80 polite and friendly, I'm also 20% flippancy.

As for defending it, I just think like I said, FS! Really isn't the forum I'd want to have that discussion on. Heck, the whole internet is rough on me for that. I'm an artist, not a writer. Sometimes I don't quite say what I want, even when I have time to think about it before I write.

For the record, I'm the original secret-maker and it's lovely to hear that; I'm wary of any Gwen comparison on my part because some people seem scarily vehement of anything connected with her. So it's nice to hear some reassurance. Thank you!

Considering that all of the main characters in Torchwood are, in one way or another, emotionally and mentally fucked up, Gwen gets a ridiculous amount of bashing from the fandom- and honestly, I chalk that up to little more than Female Love Interest Syndrome.

Let's not kid ourselves, it's going a lot far. I have a habit of being a tad flip, but "occasionally an idiot" however doesn't go far enough for me.

Considering that all of the main characters in Torchwood are, in one way or another, emotionally and mentally fucked up, Gwen gets a ridiculous amount of bashing from the fandom-

But that's why I don't like her (not Eve, but Gwen.) They have a crew of horribly damaged people who have been at this for atleast 3 years each. She's fresh as can be, she shouldn't be that wrecked yet.

She's supposed to be the Galahad. The pure soul to bring some balance. The Arthur Dent, the John Myers from Hellboy. The fairly innocent everyman who is a breath of the outside world to guide us through a very weird one. But she fails as a character at every turn. Cheat on, Taser, and drug the crap out of Rhys for a full season? "She was trying to protect him!" She was trying to control him, and in a very abusive passive-aggressive crazy person way. I leave 90% of my Gwen-ire up to horribly inconsistent writing.

I chalk that up to little more than Female Love Interest Syndrome

Maybe for others but not for me. I was just so into the character at first and she turns out that way?

I hope any of that made sense.
