My problem is that I need porn to be 100% in character to enjoy it, and in my experience the "harder" the kinks, the more likely it is that the fic becomes OOC at some point. If I don't know or don't care about the characters, I can just focus on how hot the porn is. If it's my OTP, I just think "he would never think that/say that/react like that!"

I can see where this might be part of my problem, but then it doesn't explain my selective ignoring of this for stuff like A/B/O. :/ But generally I'm very much like thsi as well, and I do agree that I just find it a little weird seeing characters engaging in "out there" kinks like that. I find it even more strange when it's approached in a realistic way, as if the character were just another real person with said kink. It starts falling into a weird "uncanny valley" territory for me or something.

There's a MGSV fic about Ocelot getting kidnapped, raped and impregnated by a pterodactyl. It's like 14k words, I'm not sure why it exists but as I recall it's unsettlingly well written and moving for something with that premise.

So yeah, the ovi/tentacles and shit? All consensual. Which is kind of why I feel a little weird about it. It's not like I would be reading/writing the characters as not liking it.

I don't share your kinks but I am very much the same way you are when it comes to reading about my favorite characters engaging in my kinks. It actually squicks me and I can't do it. Turns out I need my own "OCs" or just random "nobody" characters if I want to read about my kinks. I have no idea why that is either, perhaps I view my kinks as too personal or something?

It's weird, like I said in my secret I'm totally okay with my "tamer" kinks. Like messy creampies or wanting to keep your lover inside you even after you've both come or even A/B/O (not "tame" I guess but eh), I'm all for reading fics of my OTPs doing that sort of stuff! Sign me up!

But even regarding the fact that like I told another anon, the ovi/tentacle kinks are 100% consensual or I'm not really into it so by virtue of said limitation I'm talking about fics where the characters are engaging in this consensually...it still squicks me the fuck out. I think part of it could be the fact that I really don't like reading about non-monogamy of any kind, even if it's 100% agreed upon by both parties, and yeah I'm going to include getting fucked by tentacles as "non-monogamy". So I like just reading about my OTP fucking one another only...but even when the tentacle or ovi kink can be worked into the fabric of monogamy (like an AU or with a character that can install different parts or magic spell them into existence, that sort of thing), it still weirds me out and makes me just feel like scrubbing myself lol.

Actually I am, but that wasn't one of the fandoms I was writing about in the secret oddly enough.

I do remember there being a lot of kink stuff for Transformers I could just never get into though. I haven't been keeping up with the newer stuff though, I was mainly in the movie(s) fandom(s), Animated and Prime fandoms with a little classic G1 thrown in there. Is it really infiltrating TF fandom bad right now?

Because when I'm reading about my favorite characters I feel like I'm in a voyeur position and like things more tame.

But when my fantasies are self-insert things get a little freakier.

Maybe because it's all too common for fic with that type of kink to derail both character and/or plausibility in service of the kink.

I tend to just go into any fic like that with a very generous suspension of disbelief and the understanding that the character names are just to give an idea what they look like. I like to have at least some connection to the fandom, but it does help if I'm not very invested in the characters (like a fandom that I used to be into, but have since dropped).
