Griping about the weather

(Anonymous) 2016-12-10 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It is basically not going to stop raining outside now until mid-April, we don't have a tumble dryer, that means everything has to be dried indoors, so it is going to be like living in a broken sauna until spring. It'll either be hot and humid, or if it is warm enough out to not have the central heating on, it'll quickly become cold and clammy inside too. I hate this time of year, the damp is just awful. Damn you, guaranteed Atlantic Westerlies and chronic overcast clouds.

I'm actually enjoying the weather here right now. I may be the only one. It has been in the 30s and 40s for the past week and a half in San Antonio. Very unusual for here. Reminds me of Boston. Everyone was looking at me like I was crazy when I went out with just a sweater on today and no coat.

seconding that.

Also the four days of rain.

See, I spend weeks at a time staring glumly at overcast or even sunny blue skies, wishing it would rain for months on end.

You can have all the rain from here. By the time spring rolls around just about everything is covered in damp mould no matter how hard you fight it and any untreated woodwork is so waterlogged it is all soft and ready to burst. Even the days where it doesn't rain, the humidity is so high it might as well be raining. Nothing dries now, and it is pointless to try opening windows to air out because the moist air just rolls in and makes everything worse. Everyone has a dehumidifier or two or three going every day, just to try to keep everything on the good side of pneumonic. A winter here really makes you understand why consumption and tuberculosis used to be such a big thing.

Yeah. I love the rare (and probably getting rarer, thanks climate change/stupid people who don't believe humans have anything to do with climate change!) years when it rains a ton here. It's the only time I see an upside in our heavy clay soil--once the top layer softens up it can hold so much rainwater everything stays green until June without supplemental watering.
