While no one would doubt that Once Upon A Time fandom can be deeply toxic, I think you're perhaps overstating the case a little bit.

Toxic is understating it.

Do you think the writers are in fear of their lives?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-11 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Go into a Once forum and ask about the Graham/Queen relationship then think about if you want an answer to your question.

So you do think the writers are in fear for their lives?

I doubt it but occasionally I have honestly thought they should be.

Considering the mid season finale, I think it has more to do with OUAT's shitty writing and storytelling.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-11 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's never been about representation. That's just a buzzword slashers (of both genders) like to throw around because they think it makes them activists instead of plain old standard-issue shippers, and then they get to play the victim when their OTP doesn't become canon.

That said, I think you're being just a teeeeensy little bit dramatic here, OP. The SQ fandom might be trash, but I seriously doubt anyone's literally afraid for their life. Their twitter feed, maybe, but...

As someone who doesn't ship SQ or OQ, I can say that every subset of OUAT shippers including the ones I'm a part of have their share of batshit, but I think you're exaggerating; if Robin was killed off to make way for SQ, Hook should've been left for dead (and no, being brought back by allmighty "I think with my dick" Zeus does not count as "left for dead" long ago.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-11 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Hook would have been first in line for the chop if fear of SQ shippers was real! I used to ship SQ way back in first season but my fellow shippers poisoned that well thoroughly. It's the only time I've ever completely dropped a show and ship because of the behaviour of other fans.

They're not going to kill someone off due to anti-shippers. They killed him off because he was a pointless character and the actor was too unmemorable to even be mediocre yet, in a cast of boring characters, managed to create new records of boring.

His character encompassed only one of the loads of horrible messages/themes/whatall of this show and good riddance to getting rid of a definite story killer.

The way Lana eggs on Swen, if she feels uncomfortable, she has no one to blame but herself. Sean, on the other hand, got screwed.

Honestly by this point few of the writing decisions make sense.

While there absolutely are terrible people in this fandom who harass the cast+crew/other fans, I doubt that's the reason. (If it had anything to do with SQ, they likely would've gotten rid of Hook, too or at least ended the Emma/Hook relationship.) I think it's a combination of the writers needing a reason to do the Split Queen arc and wanting to get away from the disaster that was the Robin-Zelena baby plot.

But that's basically just them being lazy. They could've come up with another reason to do the Split Queen arc and any flack they got from the Robin-Zelena thing was on them. They knew how the Graham-Regina plot went over and they learned nothing from it. They included yet another rape storyline and refused to acknowledge it as such all while being surprised that fans were upset.
