Re: Political Musings

Ditto that. I just think it's really easy for other people to dismiss the Nazi argument. Nazis are so tied to Hitler and the 1930s-40s that I think in a lot of people's minds, Nazis are just history, like Confederate soldiers, Redcoats and pilgrims. So, when people say "We should call White Nationalists Nazis!" they think you're being a hyperbolic reactionary baby.

Whether present day people following Nazi doctrine makes them Nazis or not is irrelevant. All that matters is how very counterproductive it is to make that argument. And I don't really think this is an area where we can afford to prioritize pedantry over productivity.

I don't think pedantry and productivity can necessarily be separated in this case. Because, first of all, clarity and understanding is an important political value. Political confusion and the inability to speak clearly about and to understand politics is harmful in and of itself. Second of all, I don't think calling white nationalists Nazis is a particularly productive thing to do. I don't think it's a way of talking that people take seriously, and I think it's reasonably easy to disprove. So I'm just not sure what the upside is.
