He's ok, on all fronts. But I do NOT get how he's able to be ANY kind of boss. That whole team is so incompetent. The last two teams were far more competent than Skull is. Same for bosses.

I think that's kind of the point of Team Skull. They're not so much a team as a ragtag group of mostly-teen thugs who don't have anything else to do with themselves.

Honestly, what I love about Team Skull is, in contrast to most other Pokémon Evil Teams, is that instead of being a highly organized mafia-type group of professional criminals led by a mastermind, they're literally just a bunch of teenage emo kids with nowhere else to go causing trouble together because they have nothing else to do. It's very true-to-life, and a refreshing change in a Pokémon game.

And for that, Guzma is a perfectly good leader. He's strong and very assertive, and has enough charisma to rally a bunch of otherwise lost people around a concept of belonging and power - basically how real gangs work, too.

I guess, but I'm so used to the teams being organized (my favorite being Galactic) that I just...the whiplash for this team just rubs me wrong. :/

But there IS an organized "villain" group in the game, Team Skull is just a red herring for who you'll really need to face.

And to be fair, even within the ranks of those other teams there were some fail members. They just dressed nicer.

Just how incredibly incompetent they are conmpared to even Plasma. They just...they don't feel like a proper team at all and it just...bugs me is all.

Guzma is actually a tragic character; he did his best, and it wasn't good enough. He didn't have a good family life (his parents were fine people, but didn't understand what he was going through), so he essentially ran away from home and now looks after other troubled kids. Later on you find out SPOILERS that he's still getting himself into bad situations by getting involved with the real villain of the game.

Poor guy is still so determined to be "the strongest bug-type trainer" that he had his grunts collect all of the buginium z in the region so only he can use it.

I think a lot of people sympathize with that more than his appearance. He's actually a really strong trainer, but he's not strong enough to make a name for himself, like the kahunas.

From what I understand it's clearer in Japanese, but even then we only hear about Guzma using the golf clubs, if I recall. I'm not sure if the abuse was a longstanding thing or if it was a kneejerk reaction to finding out Guzma was about to run away.

I think it's also connected to the only time Hau ever saw Hala angry, but that's just me.

I'm the OP and I don't know who you're talking about. None of my secrets have ever had that in their comments so I couldn't be this person. Can you tell me who that is?

Different anon here, I just hate to see you left hanging like this. A while ago we had an influx of secrets about celebrities and characters being ugly, and it seemed like they were being made by the same person. Or they were just comments on people's secrets saying "ew he's ugly", I don't really remember, but the person was nicknamed ugly anon and it's a thing people say whenever an anon reminds them of the original ugly anon.
