I agree!

/that one fan who likes non-canon pairings on the way to other non-canon pairings

Honestly the fandom killed what little shred of "eh, maybe" I could have had about this pairing, even in a casual sex way.

If the shippers weren't so disgusting I think it would be interesting to read a fic about those two trading some light sexual favours (I can't picture either of them really wanting to "do everything" with each other, but maybe some quick handjobs or something) while they're both really angsting over the guy they feel they can't have (because they're over-dramatic teens who fret instead of talk shit out) in their respective situations. To make things more complicated, they both know about each other's real love interest and it becomes a sort of mutual blackmail situation. (Add in extra drama: They get found out and everyone mistakes their "hatejobs" for an actual romantic relationship.) It would be an interesting fic in my opinion, not to mention I feel like it would be really fascinating and somewhat realistic to write that situation, which is something a lot of teens find themselves in, where your first sexual contact is more just blowing off steam with someone you can maybe call a friend even if you're really crushing hard one someone else that you either really can't have, or you think you can't have, but....yeah shippers have made me not want to touch this fic idea with a ten foot pole. Especially because I can imagine a lot of shitty AO3 comments about not making Klance the "endgame" and how it's a hatefic or some shit.

That does sound like a really interesting fic. A bit messy, y'know? But with a potential for sweetness.

They can be pretty funny together (though the constant bickering does get annoying sometimes, it's the worst in the official comics) and I think they have potential for a pretty solid friendship somewhere down the road, but yeah, it's a big no-no for me as romantic ship.

It bugs me that they're the juggernaut pairing of the fandom because I'm just so freakin' sick of the 'characters who bicker with each other are totes flirting!' bullshit. There's zero romantic chemistry there, we've just convinced ourselves as a culture that arguing is somehow romantic.

Not to mention the fact that the shippers are obnoxious, and every time a post for this couple does float across my dash, it's totally out of character.
