Okay, makes sense. I mean it doesn't really get that hot here except maybe every few years for a day or so, so we don't put that kind of strain on the grid, really. I mean *I* would turn that shit on at 40C/104F and I run cold!

What is a "brownout"?

I hope you're indoors and toasty warm though.

Thanks! It's hard for me to get toasty without paying a LOT for heat in winter, but coats, blankets and hot drinks help!

Fahrenheit is weird. Celsius makes sense. 0 is freezing point and 100 is boiling point for water.

Oh I agree 100%, and also with the metric system in general, but sadly I live in a place where people still use Imperial, including Fahrenheit, on a regular basis for day-to-day communication. (We do use metric, including Celsius, at work. It's so weird to me that the scientific community in the US has basically completely adopted metric - because it makes SENSE - and the rest of our country refuses to consider it. 'Murica.)

A blackout is when all power goes off for a period of time. A brownout is a somewhat milder version - sometimes as little as lights flickering, but can play havoc for some electronics.

*hugs my precious metric system*

Brownouts are dumb. Usually what will happen is all the appliances and the tv will switch off and the lights will dim and flicker like in a horror movie. When I was a kid they would usually go on a lot longer than blackouts because the power company would be like "lol the power is still on calm yo tits" and yes technically it is but it doesn't run the fridge or heat water. Cold baths in the dark for the whole family.
