Non-shippy X-Files

Interested in any recs for X-Files fic that's not primarily about shipping - at least not Mulder/Scully or any of the other major fandom ships. Incidental stuff is fine, I just don't care very much about those ships.

Case fics and gen would be good, and also would be kind of interested in well-done AUs or crossovers.

Squicks: incest and associated kinks, mpreg.
Romance/sex: no preference! Tho I'm not a huge fan of Steve/Tony, which I only state cuz I know it's huge. :)

Other than that, I'm so open. I literally love AUs. And h/c.

I've rec'd it before, and gotten complaints about torture porn for the sake of torture porn? Which is a fair point, honestly, but I didn't really care because teamwork! And Steve h/c that isn't actually all about Tony! And family!

Books about English/British culture

I'm reading The Adventure of English by Melvyn Bragg and I'd love books that are more in-depth about the history of England from the POV of the development of language. I'd really love to understand pre-Normans English more. Or books that get more in-depth about extremely localised dialects in England, since English accents are cool, particularly the Northern ones.

About British culture, I love the fond-mocking type stuff like George Mikes' How To Be a Brit, or even novels with a particular emphasis on the British culture, perhaps? I do love Wodehouse, and even the stuff in Murder Most Unladylike even though it's not written by a Brit.

Two books on the English people:

Watching the English, by Kate Fox. An anthropologist studies her compatriots.

The English, by Jeremy Paxman. The BBC's superheavyweight interviewer give his take on the nation.

I don't agree with everything in either book, but they certainly have their points of view!

Anon, I had no idea about this before now! Thank-you for bringing it to my attention. KB as an admiral, OMG. I have to say that everyone looks remarkably fresh and clean considering what a shambles Dunkirk actually was, but it's the thought that counts! (Also, SPITFIRES.)

Late answer, I know.

It might not be exactly what you're looking for (it contains some romance although that is not its main focus), but I'm currently reading 'the Nolde' by BarbaraKaterina. It follows Galadriels POV from the time of the trees onwards. Warning: it is insanely long (300 000 words+) and currently unfinished, but last updated yesterday.

Main focus is Galadriel trying to fight the doom of the noldor, and political intrigue in Beleriand. At least so far, I've only gotten halfway through it and the end of the first age is coming on fast at that point. Maedhros, Fingon, and Celebrimbor are important secondary characters, but the fic is clearly 3rd person limited, following Galadriel.

I'm looking for a Stargate Universe fanfic called "Force Over Distance" by CleanWhiteRoom. No amount of searching has located this fic, which was superlatively indulgent and delicious. The writer appears to have fallen off the edge of the earth and is simply gone. I know it's a slender hope but does anyone here happen to have a copy of the fic?

Also: whatever happened to VelvetMace? I've been looking for their Sherlock/Sentinel piece: Chameleon.

Any help will be gratefully accepted. Thank you.
