Yuri on Ice

Guys guys is he going to win though?! Are he and Victor going to be married and be in love or will the show serve into ambiguous zone?! What!

I think I'll be happy even if he doesn't win. I'd like Phichit to win if Yuri doesn't though.

AND HE AND VICTOR WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER TEACHING TINY TOTS TO SKATE.

Phichit is so fucking cute and sincere that I root for him every time and rewatch just for him, but I don't think he'll win unless the show goes for a joke ending. Phichit being in the finals is enough to complete his character's goal, he doesn't need to win, just prove Thai skaters are competitive. I would say any other candidate besides the Kazakhstan guy has higher chance to win (Kazakhstan just isn't a developed enough character to pull it off). Well JJ definitely won't either lol

Logic says it'll be Yuri vs. Yuri. And since Russian Yuri got his world record score already, and Japanese Yuri is the protagonist, it stands to reason Japanese Yuri will win. But I'm also not 100% confidant. His story arc doesn't have to climax by actually winning, just getting close to it and reflecting that on to his relationship with Victor. Sports anime occasionally does pull out and not let the protagonists win at the end, as long as they've learned a lesson, and I can't help but think that might happen here. He will definitely deliver an amazing performance next episode, but maybe make a terrible fall and miss out. It'd be a setup for season 2, if there is one - and if that's the case Victor will compete again next year, and it'll be Japanese Yuri vs Victor.

/too many thoughts

Ugh I know right? He's so adorable! And I know realistically he probably won't win (for most of the reasons you cited), but I'd love him to.

I agree that it'd probably come down to Yuri vs Yuri and I think I'd be okay with that. I'd like Japanese Yuri to win, but I do also kind of like when the protagonist loses as well, so I think I'd probably be fine with Russian Yuri winning.

I LOVE EVERYONE OKAY! THEY CAN ALL WIN! GOLDS FOR ALL!

Pitchit is so gosh darn adorable with his selfies and hamsters! I'd also want him to win if Yuri doesn't.

Gah, I'm so weird, but I kinda want them all to win! Even JJ and Chris, who bugged me when they were first introduced, but I've warmed up to them. But I also really, really, really want Yuri to win! I don't think he and Victor will get married (though that would be pretty sweet!), but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll stay together and be cute and in love.

See, I've thought JJ was hilarious the entire time, so I don't get the hate. He felt more like a villainous comic relief. Him skating to his theme song cracks me up. I was a little surprised to see him go out so bad this episode, but he was so OP previously and there wasn't any way he could've actually won gold for narrative purposes, so oh well. I enjoy him though.

I am genuinely kind of into Chris's sexiness though. No regrets, I'd fuck him.

I thought JJ was kinda obnoxious at first, TBH. He reminded me of a really annoying guy I knew in high school, but the more I watched JJ, the more I grew to like him. He's just so damn confident and it's pretty humorous. I genuinely cried when he messed up his program. I felt so bad for him, but I loved seeing all his fans and his fiancee cheer him on.

Yeah, I definitely hate in general seeing characters "mess up" and be humiliated in the spotlight, and it was no different for JJ. But he had so much crowd support that it wasn't really much of a punishment for him. He'll bounce back.

I have no idea what's going to happen! It's got me all confused!! I'm not sure how serious they are about it being his last season. Is that just him being his typical insecure self? If it's actually his last season, a gold finish feels like a good ending. Otherwise he seems like a long shot.

I really don't know what to take literally and what to take as insecure doublespeak with this show. I've never watched a sports or romance anime series before, and I feel out of my depth :(

I know, right?! D: I mean, by default you assume Yuri's got to win, but anime in general doesn't always go for the flowery perfect endings, and this series is juuuust mature enough to pull off an ending that doesn't involve Yuri winning. Which will break my heart, but who knows? He's only in fourth now, and he'll have to beat Russian Yuri to win.

Since he's talked about meeting Victor on the ice again so often, I feel like there could be a season two with them against one another.

I just mostly can't believe there's only one episode left!

NAYRT

I also can't believe there's only one episode left! I wish the show could've been twenty four episodes long instead of twelve. I want to know more about all the other characters, especially Yurio and Pitchit. As much as I adore Yuri, I really want day in the limelight episodes for those two. I'd love to see Yuri and Victor compete against each other and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a second season.

I hate to say it but I feel like there's too much... skating. I mean, there are all these side characters who get precious episode minutes dedicated to them while they skate (and by this point, we've even already seen their performances before). Honestly, I'm more interested in the lead characters, and they hardly had any screen time. This would work better if the series was longer and there was more filler, but as sort-of interesting as the characters who aren't Yuri, Yuri, and Victor are, I'd rather have more plot with them.

But I guess a series like this inspires a lot of fanfic, just because it leaves so many gaps and in-betweens left open. I appreciate what the series is doing, but it's only 12 episodes, so I kind of just want it to focus on the established characters it has.
